Review

Story

Set on the backdrop of a lower class slum, the story begins with Balaji (Muthukumar) who hates his drunkard father Jothi (Shimmore) and leaves home along with his brother Karthik (Nani). Both grow up at their uncle’s place and Balaji ensures their father’s shadow never falls on Karthik who joins engineering.

Meanwhile, Karthik is in love with Revathi (Nithya) and has a very close friend Vishnu (Karthik Kumar). The story takes a turn when Vishnu joins hands with Jothi who becomes a pimp for earning quick money and he takes the help of Karthik for that. Vishnu wants to get his lover Vani (Bindu Madhavi), a prostitute, out of the brothel. However, what seems to be a snatch job changes the fate and destiny of each one involved. What is that incident? How the story turns after that forms the rest of the story.

Artists Performance:

Nani has given a subdued performance and it must be said that his presence is mild. He was good occasionally and shows his mettle.

Nithya Menon looks perfect like the girl next door and audience is advised to focus on her magnetic face only. She is expressive and looks natural in this role.

Karthik Kumar displays the wavering character in a good way. Though his performance is not that impact creating, he does his bit as required.

Muthukumar has got good screen presence but then he was stiff in many places and could not convey the required anger and intensity during critical situations.

Bindu Madhavi looks sensuous and carries her role effectively. Though her role was limited, she engages the viewer as long as she is on the screen. She needs to do something about her voice though.

Shimmore looks the perfect pimp and displays the apt histrionics. Jennifer was just okay. The others didn’t have much to offer.

Highlights:

* Screenplay
* Background score
* Two songs
* Technical values

Drawbacks:

* No entertainment or comedy quotient
* Climax action sequence has irrelevant background score
* Weak emotional intensity in critical scenes
* Overdose of music in few sequences

Final Analysis:

First things first, Indian cinema is going through a transition and the new wave of lady directors are knocking the doors open. The likes of Nandini Reddy, Zoya Akhtar are creating a new genre and now Anjana joins the bandwagon. For a debutante, this is a challenging assignment to deal with dark psyches of human side and explore the lower strata of society in a realistic manner.

While her approach towards life in this practical sense is appreciable, there are few fundamentals which Anjana should have considered. A film is made for the conviction of the audience so it is important to keep their pulse in mind to score success at the box office. Here, the elements of formula are missing. Also, the lack of branded actors will go as a setback. Given the fact that it is a dubbed version, no efforts have been made to bring the Telugu nativity.

Overall, the film must be appreciated for the debut efforts but in terms of audience perspective and logical analysis, this may not strike a chord with the family audience. However, given the budget, the film will no doubt land into safe/profit zone.

Sources reveal that the shoot of Rajini Kanth’s Rana is going to start from October 3rd at the Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad. It is known that two grand sets have been erected at Ramoji Film City for Rana’s shooting. One set looks like a huge palace while the other one is that of a ship. Director Ravi Kumar has designed a schedule of 100 days for Rajini with enough intervals by considering his health factor. Though doctors have advised Rajini not to go for risky fight sequences, the actor is showing his willingness to do it himself without any body double or computer graphics.

However, Director KS Ravi Kumar is in plans to include risky fight sequences by using computer graphics.

Deepika Padukone, Sonu Sood, Ganja Karuppu and other lead cast will be joining Rana team at the Ramoji Film City from October 3rd.

It can be noted here that Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad is Rajini’s sentiment and favourite studio as the studio carries the name of his father Ramoji Rao. Most of his films are shot in Ramoji Film City and Rajini always plans one schedule of his every film over here.

King Nagarjuna seems to be busy with handful of films. The Yuvasamrat, who is presently busy with Rajanna in Vijayendra Prasad direction, is simultaneously allotting his dates to his biggest budget film of his career Damarukam, being directed by Srinivas Reddy and produced by Venkat of RR Movie Makers banner. While Rajanna will hit the big-screens in the end of September for Dussera, Damarukam might see the limelight for January, 2012 for Pongal.

Apart from these promising films, Nagarjuna has okayed another couple of films. Nag has given his nod to portray the role of Lord Sai Baba in a devotional film titled Shirdi Sai. The film will be directed by Raghavendra Rao, who gave the actor two devotional hits Annamayya and Sri Ramadasu. Shiridi Sai is progressing at fast pace and currently the music sittings are being done. Keeravani has already composed 3 songs for the film.

Next to this, Nagarjuna has accepted a new film with D. Siva Prasad Reddy on Kamakshi Kala Movie banner. A renowned director will wield the megaphone for this big budget films says the sources.

Pawan Kalyan’s undershoot film in the direction of Vishnuvardhan has completed its shoot in Pollachi. A song in the choreography of Dinesh and little talkie part has been canned on Pawan Kalyan and Sarah Jane Dias. The makers have also completed few comedy scenes on Power Star and Brahmanandam. The remaining part of this schedule will be shot in Karaikudi, Tamilnadu.

The film was earlier referred as Shadow and Kaali but the final title of the film will be announced on 2nd September by the producers. Pawan Kalyan will be seen romancing two new ladies Sarah Jane Dias and Anjali Lavania in the film. Neelima and Shobu Yarlagadda are producing the film on the banner of Sanghamitra Arts and Arka Media jointly. Yuvan Shankar Raja is the music director.

Kandireega in Post-Production

Ram, Hansika starrer Kandireega is all set to hit the big-screens in the early August. The audio launch was recently held and the movie is currently in its post-production phases. Ram will be seen in a mass role in the film as Sreenu while Hansika as his love interest. Aksha is playing the other important role.

Bejawada Rowdilu Into Headlines Again!

Ram Gopal Varma’s production venture Bejawada Rowdilu has hit the headlines once again for wrong reasons. The film has run into controversies right from the announcement of the title. Though controversies are not new to RGV, Bejawada Rowdilu is facing severe troubles unlike his earlier projects.

Gowtham Reddy an advocate lodged a petition in High court against Bejawada Rowdilu demanding for a change of film’s title. Now, the High court has given censor Board legal counsel a week time for analyzing on the issue. Earlier few groups in Vijayawada expressed their anger and unhappiness on RGV’s decision on Bejawada Rowdilu.

Naga Chaitanya is playing the lead role in the film and Preetika Rao is playing the female lead. Vivek Krishna is directing it on Shreya Productions banner.

Sunil is said to be doing the lead role in one of the Lakshmi Prasanna pictures film and Padmashri Mohan Babu will be seen in a full-fledged role as a father-in-law to Sunil in the film. Rayudu Gaariki Kopamocchindi is the title of the film.

The script work of the film is presently under progress and Kona Venkat and Gopi Mohan are working on it. The film will be directed by E.Nivas and Lakshmi Prasanna is handling the production works of the film. Other details of the cast and crew of the film are yet to be announced.

Sunil has also a couple of other films in pipeline. He gave his nod for Subramanyam for Sale in Harish Shankar’s direction, a film to be directed by Veerabhadra of Ahanna Pellanta (Allari Naresh’s film) fame. Other than these, Sunil might also play the lead role in Tanu weds Manu remake with Tapsee as the female lead.

Young Tiger Jr.NTR’s forthcoming film Oosaravelli has Tamannah as the female lead. The latest buzz in the filmnagar sources reveal that Tamannah will be seen as a memory loss patient in the film. Jr. NTR is said to be her savior and protects her.

Oosaravelli is all about winning the battle with the mental ability rather than applying physical strength. Oosaravelli has wrapped up 80% of the film shoot and is currently progressing in Hyderabad. BVSN Prasad is producing the film on Sri Venkateshwara Cine Chitra banner and Devi Sri Prasad is rendering the tunes for the film.

Puri Scouting Locales For 'The Businessman'

Prince Mahesh Babu’s next film The Businessman is set to hit the floors from the end of August. The film with a tagline Guns don’t need agreements will take shape in the hands of dashing director Puri Jagannadh. Venkat will produce the film lavishly on RR Movie Makers banner.

Currently Puri Jagannadh is scouting the locales for the film to be shot. Major part of The Businessman shoot will take place in Mumbai. Kajal Agarwal is playing Mahesh’s love interest in the film. This is the first time the dou pairing up for a film. The Businessman is slated for a release for Pongal for 12th January, 2012.

Siddharth’s forthcoming film O My Friend is currently progressing in Allepey in Kerala and it is expected to take place for few more days. The makers are canning a couple of songs on Siddharth and Shruti Haasan and little talkie part in the schedule.

The film casts Shruti Haasan in the leading lady role and Hansika and Navdeep in other important roles. This is the second time Sid and Shruti are pairing up after Anaganaga O Dheerudu. Earlier, a schedule has been wrapped up in Hyderabad. Venu Sriram is making his debut as director with this film. Dil Raju is producing O My Friend on Sri Venkateswara Creations banner.
