Review

Story

Jayadev (Srikanth) is an honest journalist who believes in exposing the corrupt politicians. He goes to interview a minister (Ahuti Prasad) and at the same time, a group of naxals led by Gogi (Ajay) come to kidnap the minister. In the crossfire, the minister is killed and Jayadev is taken as hostage. This causes a furore in the political, media and the other naxal groups. However, Gogi is adamant on his rules. He is accompanied by his team Hari (Kamal), Rehana (Rupali) and others (Sivaji Raja, Ravi Varma, Sri Ramya etc). While on their escape to the forests, Jayadev comes across the lives and past of each member and realizes the various aspects happening in the name of revolution. How does he deal with that forms the rest of the story.

Artists Performance:

Srikanth should be commended for taking up such roles, though his role lacked conventional heroism. His expressions are subtle and he did well in his limitations.

The antagonist of the film Ajay was given equal footage as of Srikanth. Ajay has got the strong role with good dialogues to prove his acting skills and he is exceptional as a naxal leader. He delivered his best with his perfect gestures.

Kamal Kamaraju gives a decent performance and leaves his mark. Kamalinee Mukerji is acceptable in her limited role and does few intimate scenes. Shivaji Raja, Kiran, Ramya and others are adequate.

Final Analysis:

Music by R.P Patnaik is okay with just a couple of situational songs but the background score and re-recording was praiseworthy and elevated the mood of the film. Cinematography by H R Ramachandra is of ordinary quality. Anil Meka’s idea of producing such film is laudable. Story by Neelakanta is good but the screenplay lacks its pace in the beginning. The post-interval episodes are racy and were handled well. Editing could have been better. Dialogues are okay. Production Values are normal.

Neelakanta has returned after a long gap and he has come up with a risky subject on Naxalism as the backdrop. Virodhi moves on with a slow pace in the beginning and picks up its momentum in the second half of the film and ends well. Audience might not be impressed with this story-telling as it tests the patience in some moments. The strength of the film lies completely on the performances of Ajay and Kamal Kamaraju. Though Neelakanta’s idea of Virodhi is praiseworthy, he fails downright in executing his ideas. The film lacks commercial elements. At the Box-Office, Virodhi will appeal to very few section of audiences.
